SANDHILL PILATES
Sandhill is a boutique-style pilates and movement studio located in Novi, Michigan. I worked closely with the owner, Amy Kane, to build and maintain a brand that is consistent across web and print media.
LOGO DESIGN
I designed the logo for Sandhill Pilates with a luxury spa in mind. The handwritten typeface feels approachable and intimate, while the geometric sans-serif font keeps things neat and clean.
It was established early on that a nod to a Sandhill crane should appear in the logo. I provided Amy with several different options, along with corresponding logomarks.
The flowing lines of the handwritten brand name resonated with Amy, and we ultimately settled on the organic, yet readable, Southampton paired with Cocomat Light.
brand colors
Sandhill’s color palette is neutral and calming with a surprising red accent reminiscent of the crest on a Sandhill Crane’s head.

APPLICATION
Business Cards: Tactile experience is as important as design when it comes to business cards. Printed on a thick satin card stock, the front of the Sandhill Pilates business card inspires the feeling of luxury a client should experience when entering the Sandhill studio. The back of the card features the Sandhill logomark, and a raised spot gloss texture that makes the card itself feel like a yoga mat.
Website: The design of Sandhill’s site is clean, easy to navigate, and was built to grow alongside the studio. Amy can add and update classes, and clients can sign up for them right from the site. As Sandhill Pilates gains more and more clients, their website will adapt to their growing needs. More advanced scheduling features will allow Amy to view her upcoming bookings, contact clients, and change times all from one place.
Postcards: I wanted to make sure all of Sandhill’s promotional material looked and felt like a cohesive brand. These informational handouts were printed on the same satiny cardstock as the business cards, and remained faithful to the layout and styling of the website.
BACKGROUND NOISE
Throughout much of the time I spent working with Amy on her brand, I was also planning a week-long trip to Ireland. I wanted to have some grasp of the history of the country I was visiting, so I began listening to the extremely comprehensive IRISH HISTORY PODCAST.
Hosted by author and historian, Fin Dwyer, the podcast covers the history of the island from before the Viking settlements through the Victorian era and Great Famine.
